We seek out tutors through a variety of sources, including the recommendations of current tutors at the center or educators in the community. We choose tutors based on their level of expertise in their field, the amount of experience they have in tutoring, and their familiarity with international environments. While the international schools are looking for teachers with teaching certification, we are looking for tutors with a proven track record of individual and small group educational success. The process of tutoring is far different from the work done in classroom settings and a teacher with certification, but without tutoring in his or her background may lack the skills needed for individual tutoring.

In addition to choosing tutors with the utmost care, The Learning Center provides in-house training covering culture and academic issues unique to Beijing at the start of each academic year, along with online training for most tutors and coordinators through Crossroads of Learning, a training program designed in alliance with the National Tutoring Association of the United States allowing our tutors and coordinators to be certified at the Advanced level.
