There are several options open to parents and they involve varying degrees of lesson planning on the part of the tutor. Any student coming in to the center, regardless of the nature of his tutoring program, will have a brief IEP (Individual Education Plan) designed for him or her in consultation with the parents. On this IEP, goals and expectations for each 12-week period will be outlined and parents will receive a summary of these in the communication log that goes home with students at the end of each class. That being said, there are two main options available to parents and each option involves a different degree of planning. For students who enter the center primarily for 'homework support', the plan is to guide them in their school work and work with them to master challenging aspects. To this end, the tutors and program coordinators familiarize themselves with the curriculum at most major international schools. The goal then is to make sure the student is fully able to grasp the concepts presented in his class at school and apply them to his or her homework assignments. Other students attend tutoring for more general needs, such as to improve writing skills in English or to understand broad concepts in mathematics. In these cases, the tutor in charge, under the supervision of the program coordinator, will create a program specifically to meet this student's needs. This will include weekly lesson plans, a workbook and regular assessments. |
