Individual Tutoring Options E-mail

At TLC, we recognize that tutoring is more than just an hour or two of teaching a week. It is about the rapport that develops between a tutor and his or her student, about the pride each student takes in the progress made, and about the personal attention that comes from working outside of a pre-set curriculum.

Whether your child is attending TLC for support in a challenging subject Students in Tutoring Programsor enrichment in any area, our tutors will coordinate with parents, classroom teachers, and/or learning support staff to develop a unique program. Through communication logs, emails and progress reports, you will see exactly what your child is doing, where progress has been made, and where additional support may be needed.

At The Learning Center, tutors take the time to get to know their students as individuals and to recognize that each student takes a different approach. As one parent put it, “My child thanked me for sending him to TLC.” We hope your child will too.

For more information about the subjects in which we tutor students, please download our Tutoring Information Packet (TIP).

ENGLISH AND RELATED SUBJECTS

Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension programs are designed to improve or enhance the active reading skills needed in school and for standardized testing. Whether it's getting on par with their peers or for enrichment, students will learn to love reading and understanding new texts when working with TLC tutors. Tutoring in reading is available for all grades and levels.

Writing
Our approach to writing helps students at all levels master the process of writing with ease: organizing thoughts, communicating ideas and increasing vocabulary. Programs can be developed for those just learning to write to those who need assistance in advanced composition.

Study Skills
Improving study skills and organization helps children to become better students and to enjoy their time in school. TLC tutors provide students with the strategies they need to improve studying, organization, and test-taking skills in order to reduce anxiety in school and at test time.

SAT Test Preparation: Critical Reading and Writing Sections
For many students, critical reading and writing are the most difficult sections of the SAT. TLC tutors are able to provide students with general test taking approaches, and specific methods of dealing with critical reading and writing. Students will learn how to concisely present and support a point of view on a specific topic for SAT essay writing, how to master the vocabulary needed, and how to develop better active reading skills to overcome the critical reading section.

Advanced English and Literary Analysis
TLC’s advanced English and literary analysis tutors are able to assist students in the skills needed to write literary commentary and complete reflective and academic writing projects such as essays of experience, opposing ideas, comparison, and cause and effect. Students may also request assistance in developing their research skills and active reading strategies to analyze and respond to a range of literary genres.

Social Studies/Humanities
Social Studies courses are designed to enhance the children’s knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which they live. The Learning Center has extensive knowledge of, and experience teaching, the themes taught in social studies at the major schools in Beijing. We also offer higher-level humanities options, including global politics, economics, geography, US history, world history, European history, international relations and Asian studies.

French
The Learning Center offers all levels of French. TLC’s French tutoring aims to teach students to effectively use French as a means of communication in practical situations, whilst providing a solid foundation in the grammar of the language. TLC’s French tutoring will help students become more comfortable in reading, writing and speaking, whether for school exams or daily life.

Special Needs Support
The Learning Center is able to offer a specially designed program to help students with learning disabilities or special needs. Please contact TLC to discuss the individual needs of the student.
